What is caviar?

Specifically, caviar is the roe of the sturgeon fish – and only the sturgeon. Though some mislabel items such as salmon roe “Salmon Caviar”, only sturgeon roe is technically caviar.

How long can I store caviar for?

Dom Petroff caviar is always packed to order. Fresh caviar should be refrigerated until served, stored preferably in the coolest part of your refrigerator. Unopened, its quality is maintained for four weeks. Once opened, caviar should be consumed on that occasion. Caviar should never be frozen.

How should I serve caviar?

To enjoy Dom Petroff caviar at its best, eat it pure, straight from the tin with a spoon made from nonreactive material such as mother of pearl, glass or porcelain. Avoid using silver as it will damage the caviar beads and caviars’ delicate flavor. Blini or toast points with a little crème fraiche are the perfect accompaniment to caviar, serve with a glass of chilled vodka or Champagne.

How much caviar should I serve?

Our individual 10g individual tasting tins are the perfect way to sample a variety of caviars. An ideal serving for a caviar course is 50g per person. You can split a 50 gram tin between two people for an intimate tasting. 125 grams is ideal for two people, while four people could share 125 grams for a small tasting.

How much will shipping cost?

We charge a flat shipping fee of $25 for all orders, regardless of order size or destination. We also offer free shipping on all orders more than $300.

Do you ship international orders?

This website only ships to the United States and Puerto Rico.

What is your satisfaction guarantee and your return policy?

All merchandise is guaranteed to be fresh and should be inspected immediately upon arrival. Credit will not be granted if unsatisfactory items are discarded or partially consumed. Please keep all packaging intact for returns. All claims must be made within twenty-four hours of receipt of shipment and a return authorization code will be issued. No returns will be accepted without this code. Once claim is received and accepted by Dom Petroff, we will automatically reship merchandise. Please keep all packaging intact for any returns.

Yes. We use the highest shipping standards and our Stay Fresh shipping method has been refined over our 20 years of experience in mail order and e-commerce!

How will my order stay fresh during shipping?

Will you ship to a PO Box?

No. We can not ship to P.O. Boxes.

I live in Hawaii, Alaska or Puerto Rico, can you ship there?

Yes. No shipping surcharge will be applied.

Do you require someone to sign for the package at delivery?

No, by default our shipping carrier will not request signature from the recipient. It is your responsibility to make sure someone is available to receive your package.

Do you ship on national holidays?

No. We can not deliver packages on the following holidays or the day thereafter: New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. We are also unable to deliver overnight on Mondays.

Which days are orders sent out?

Mondays thru Thursdays

Why don’t you deliver overnight on Monday?

We do not want perishable items such as caviar to sit in transit on Sunday which is a shipping holiday.

Can I select a Saturday delivery date?

Not at the moment.

Can I track my order status?

Yes. If your order ships FedEx, you will receive a tracking link within minutes of the FedEx pick up from our offices.
